Great question. You really won’t know until you try, but let me give you a few indicators whether or not you may wish to take on the challenges of Sales Management (and do it successfully, whatever “success” means to you and your business.)
First, there are several instances where you simply don’t have a choice whether or not you’re going to become a “sales manager.”
1) You own the business (you’re the only one to assume the role.)
2) You’re delegated the task (you don’t have a choice for any reason(s))
3) You “assume” the role because no one else will, and either your business or job depends on it.
A: if you own the business, and you have no other option but to learn how to sales manage, then you may need to “suck it up” and learn how to get the job done. I recommend you follow Michael Gerber’s “The Emyth” principals as a business owner first and foremost. Just Google “The Emyth” to find out more.
B: if your superior delegates the role of Sales Manger to you, and you really don’t have an option of leaving the post, then please Google the “Emyth Manager” as a starting place after you’ve read this training.
C: if you find yourself taking over the post of sales management because you have no other choice, then please read this text carefully and try to quickly find out whether or not it will work. (which actually applies to any phase you may be in.) But sometimes you take over the role of sales manager out of the necessity, when you could easily ignore the need for the position. So it’s up to you if you fit the third possibility to proceed or recess.)
Second, you may actually have a desire to learn about sales management or to improve your current skills in Sales Management. In this case, I recommend you read this course and have patience to learn and apply everything possible. I also invite you to give feedback about how to improve this site!
