This is going to be overwhelming for you, I kid you not. But the first thing I wish to offer you in advice is to follow your gut. I kid you not. This first principle in sales management, or for any type of management will give you grounding. I do wish to preface this first statement with the assumption that you are a “good” person who is ethical, wishes for true success for others, and understands basic “right and wrong” principles.
Just like being a parent. There are no handbooks you receive when your child is born, but you know the basics, and you truly wish for your children to succeed. And success for the most part is understood.
That’s all you really have to have in any attempts you make at management. You will be called-upon to be a “good parent” or manager, which parallels many parenting experiences. You know how to teach your kids not to get harmed, to teach them how to avoid problems, and the basics of how to succeed in life, even if you fell short in any of these areas.
Such is the case in Sales Management, almost to a tea. You wish for your sales team to succeed (I hope,) you wish to lead by example, to steer you team from harm, and to provide positive reinforcement and discipline when then do something right or wrong. Don’t get caught-up that you’re not perfect, you surely aren’t. But the great thing about being an entrepreneur or manager is that you simply have to drive the bus, and to keep pushing things forward. You need to stay positive and follow your gut. You will learn the legalities, but most laws follow human behavior in the golden rule (not talking about religion here,) but if you have the attitude of doing well for others, you will not go wrong.
